Debit & Prepaid Cards

Debit and prepaid cards have been around a while, so you might think you know all their benefits. However, with AbbyBank, Visa and Mastercard, and continuous technology updates, there's always a chance to discover a new trick or two.

Let's take a look at that long list of advantages

You know that Visa debit cards give you a versatile payment option for your everyday spending needs since they're accepted at millions of locations worldwide. And you know you can get cash at ATMs across Wisconsin and coast to coast. But did you know...
  • You'll never pay interest on a debit card purchase since it comes directly out of your checking account.
  • Each debit card purchase is detailed on your Online Banking page and in your monthly account statement, helping you to easily locate individual transactions and track spending patterns.
  • You can link your smartphone to your debit card for one-tap purchases in stores and restaurants.
  • If you lose your card, you can get a replacement for a small fee.1
  • You can also turn your card "on" or "off" with Mobile Banking Card Controls. Restrict where the card is used and set spending limits.
  • Visa offers round-the-clock ID theft resolution services if you think your card information has been compromised.
  • There are useful variations on the traditional debit card, including Gift Cards, Travel Cards and the Reloadable Card.

Card Controls

When you download the AbbyBank mobile app, you'll be able to control when, where, and how your debit card is used. It's a simple and secure way to manage your spending and help prevent fraud activity. Learn more about this helpful feature.

Business Debit Cards

There are also good reasons for businesses of all sizes to make frequent use of debit cards.
  • Easier and faster than constantly sending checks through the mail.
  • Your business can get multiple debit cards for each employee or department.
  • Detailed records of each debit card purchase make life easier for business accounting departments and allow data to be easily downloaded for deeper analysis.
  • Business cards have the same high-tech security features as personal debit cards, reducing the chance of fraud.

Common Questions

A debit card is linked directly to a checking account. Depending on the dollar amount in your checking account will determine some of your spending limitations. Signing up for eBanking or mobile banking at your financial institution can help you keep track of your spending and balance. You can run a transaction as Debit, using your confidential 4-digit PIN, or Credit, signing your name.  A debit card does not help build your credit.
A Credit Card is when you borrow money from a line of credit and then pay it back on a monthly basis.  If the balance is not paid back monthly, you will acquire an additional interest fee. Your spending limitations are determined by your credit card limit. Your credit card limit is the maximum you can charge to your credit card. A credit card can help you build your credit.
A prepaid debit card allows you to load money onto to the card and then use it just like a regular debit card. There are different types of prepaid cards. Some are reloadable and some are not. Each card needs to be purchased. These prepaid debit cards can be used at any merchant or ATM machine.  Once the balance on the card is used, you can reload the card online or at AbbyBank. There is no need to have an account.

Yes, there are daily dollar limits for cash withdrawals at ATM networks, POS purchases, and there are limits to the number of transactions per day. There are limitations as well depending on the balance in your account. Each institution is different along with locational restrictions. There are also slight differences between consumer and business credit card limitations. These limitations are put in places to help protect our customers from becoming victims of fraud.
AbbyBank has a few different prepaid debit card options. We offer gift cards, travel cards, and reloadable debit cards. Bring your ID and visit one of our seven locations and speak to a friendly teller. You do not have to be a customer to get a prepaid card.
